Embassy of Pakistan Niamey celebrated Iqbal Day at Tunisian International University
Every year, Pakistani across the world celebrates 9 November as Iqbal Day.

To commemorate the birth anniversary of great poet and philosopher, Allama Muhammad Iqbal in a befitting manner, Pakistan Embassy Niger organized a special ceremony in collaboration of the Tunisian International University Niamey. Prof. Khalid Ikhri, Former President Human Rights Commission Niger attended the ceremony as Chief Guest. Commercial Secretary Tunisian Embassy, Businessmen, Academics, Pakistani Community and students from various universities attended the event. Large number of print and electronic media representative also covered the proceedings. The event started with the recitation of the verses of the Holy Quran.
Ms. Wafa Hajri, Director Tunisian International University Niger welcomed the audience and paid rich tributes to Allama Iqbal for his dream of a separate homeland for the Muslims of the Subcontinent, which become a reality with the creation of Pakistan.

H.E. Ambassador of Pakistan Mr. Ahmed Ali Sirohey in his speech underscored that Iqbal born in Sialkot but his ancestors were originally from Kashmir. Allama Iqbal had pride of being Kashmiri lineage who proudly used to say Kashmiri himself. He also read few poetic verses:

Tanam Gulai Zi Khayanban-e-Janat-e-Kashmir,
Dil Az Hareemi Hejaze Nawa Ze Sheeraz Ast!

(My body comes from the earthy paradise of Kashmir; my heart belongs to the holy land of Hijaz, and my song to shiraz)

He said that Iqbal is known as spiritual father of Pakistan, a brainchild behind the two-nation theory which culminated into formation of Pakistan on 14 August, 1947. He said that while celebrating the birth anniversary of the great poet and philosopher, it was important to study deeper about his philosophy of life, about individual responsibility and communal harmony.

Ambassador Ahmed Ali Sirohey particularly appreciated the University students who presented poems and participated in different program of the ceremony. At the end, medals were given to best performer students and faculty members followed by Pakistani luncheon.
