Icon of Humanitarian Service in Thar… Dr Shafi Muhammad Memon
Dr Haji Shafi Muhammad Memon 80, medical doctor by profession, known as ‘Haji Shafi’ is a fatherly figure of the area, rendering services in the fields of medicine and philanthropy since last five decades. He did his MBBS from LMC Jamshoro in 1966 and decided to serve people of Tharparkar, a remote area lacking in basic amenities in 60s. It was really a great task because there was no doctors or paramedics in those days in villages of Thar. People who had graduated in medicine, preferred to practice in urban centers. Despite the migratory and shifting trend towards cities , Dr Shafi decided to serve ailing people of Thar. He initiated minor surgeries because poor people did not afford to move to big cities for it. He has served as the medical superintendent of Diplo and Mithi hospitals. Besides his medical services, he has contributed a great deal in philanthropy. Regularly he helps out students, patients, needy people, mosques, and other institutions imparting education or humanitarian service in Thar. He was born on 31 October 1941. It is his birthday today… Let us wish him a Happy Birthday with good health and well being. May Allah bless him with good health and happiness.
